Schools Out For The Year... Now What?

Schools Out?

In the state of Pennsylvania where I live, our Governor has declared that schools will remain closed for the rest of the year... yeah.. that just happened.

Not sure about you mommas out there, but I am not a teacher. I do not have the patience to teach kindergarten and 4th grade... I don't remember them at all. PLUS all the learning has changed. What used to be math is now common core math. I guess the point of common core math is to make the kids look at solving problems? I don't know... but I do know.. I am not the person to teach it.

I usually think that I am a patient person, but for some reason... not when it comes to school work.. I just.. I don't have it lol. I know that the teachers and the school districts are doing their best.. I mean, no one expected a pandemic to happen-- or did you? ( just kidding)

Unsung Hero's

We all know that the hero's in the world right now are the healthcare system and anyone who is essential, but lets also recognize the other heros in this pandemic... our kids. Our kids who in the middle of their school year.. just had it end... Seniors will not walk across the stage, no prom, no senior trips...all that isn't happening.

The things that they have just had to put up with is amazing. My kids have been resilient and hopeful, we try really hard to make sure that they are on a schedule and have some type of regularity to their lives. Even though they are ok with being home and not having to go to school, they do not like the idea of school from home, but they are making it through. They have just gone with the flow and moved on with whatever has been thrown at them over the last month or so. It is not the kids who are complaining all over social media, its the parents. I think they kids are just as happy to do tic tok challenges lol.

I am in multiple groups on social media where parents are doing nothing but complaining about what the schools are doing wrong and what they should be doing.

Lets Talk About...

What The Schools Are Doing

Trying to keep the kids learning( even though the missed over a month of school), trying to help the next grade up teachers( because our kids will be behind for what they need to know for the next year). There have been calls from teachers and communications on what could help my child during this time. We are seeing youtube posts from the teachers about how much they miss our children. Last but certainly not least, they are trying to make decisions that are BEST for thousands of people! Not just my child... but everyone's children... not just the children... the adults who are home with their kids. EVERYONE. Emergently trying to implement a system that was not in place nor was even a thought.

What The Schools Aren't Doing

There is no accurate time frames and expectations from the school. In a world where everything is uncertain, this is not the time to provide generalized information to parents. Getting calls to check the school website for the letters that say they are " working on a solution" drives me absolutely CRAZY! We need to know more about the process that things are going through, where are you in the decision making process of everything? They have not taken or asked for any community input... I think this is a huge failure at the school level. This is a prime example for a need to come together as a community and there is none of that happening. If you put the question out to the community about what could be done, I'm sure that you would get a boat load of input on how this process can run better. Lastly, the schools are expecting everyone to be ok with homeschooling... not everyone has the ability to homeschool their kids, or they don't want their kids to be homeschooled virtually. These are valid concerns from parents.

Can't Please Everyone

Bottom line... not everyone is going to be please with the choices that the schools are making. If your a parent to multiple children then you know that you can not please everyone, so you make the best decision for the majority of the people in your family. Personally, I think this is what the schools are doing.

If you think that stopping your kids from participating in this online school process is going to be your way of sticking one to the man, then you need to understand you are holding your child back. Do you really think that these schools aren't going to implement this into the next school year? News flash, they are... and more. They will never put themselves into a situation where they could have this happen again.

We just have to remember that we are all in this together, and everyone is doing their best.

EVERYONE'S BEST IS ENOUGH
